I had a dog just like that when I was a kid. And one night, it was Christmas Eve, we were going to have supper at my aunt's, my mom accidently ran over him. He remained alive just long enough to bark "Merry Christmas, Ian", with some wet shiny eyes, and died. It totally ruined the night. :(
